Requests and practical help / Scene 03
Getting the room ready
Ella needs help preparing a community rehearsal room. Noah arrives at six and has a sore wrist, so he cannot carry heavy equipment. The caretaker will move the keyboard. Ella and Noah can arrange the music stands themselves.
[tts-skip]Ella:[/tts-skip] Could you help me set up the rehearsal room before the musicians arrive? The chairs and music stands need arranging, and I don't want people waiting while I try to do everything at once.
[tts-skip]Noah:[/tts-skip] I'll be there at six, but my wrist is still sore. I can help with light things; I can't move the keyboard or promise to carry equipment just because we're running late.
[tts-skip]Ella:[/tts-skip] Would you mind putting out the music stands? If possible, start with the front row while I clear the chairs. We can leave anything awkward until we're both there to look at it.
[tts-skip]Noah:[/tts-skip] I can manage that. Is the front row already marked out, or do you want me to guess the spacing? I'd prefer to check before setting out stands that everyone then has to move.
[tts-skip]Ella:[/tts-skip] I'll show you the spacing when you arrive. There is no need to carry the keyboard yourself; the caretaker is moving it. Your job doesn't include making up for a delay with the heavy equipment.
[tts-skip]Noah:[/tts-skip] That's reassuring. Some stands can be stiff to open, so I may be slower than usual. I'd rather set out fewer properly than force one open and make my wrist worse.
[tts-skip]Ella:[/tts-skip] That's fine. Feel free to ask me for a hand with any stiff stand. I'll be working nearby, and we can set that one aside while we get the easy ones into place.
[tts-skip]Noah:[/tts-skip] Thanks. Let me know if we're moved to another room, though. If I arrive at six and follow the usual signs, I could start setting up in the wrong place without realizing it.
[tts-skip]Ella:[/tts-skip] I will. I'll send a message if the room changes, with the new room number. If you haven't heard anything, come to the room we've discussed and I'll meet you there.
[tts-skip]Noah:[/tts-skip] Then I'll wait for you before deciding the spacing. Once the front row is clear, I can work through the stands, and you can tell me whether the chairs need more room.
[tts-skip]Ella:[/tts-skip] Exactly. We'll check the layout together before the musicians come in. If a stand or a chair still needs moving after that, we'll deal with the specific problem rather than rush the whole setup.
[tts-skip]Noah:[/tts-skip] That works. I know when to arrive, what I can take on and when to ask for help. I'll come at six, and we'll leave the keyboard to the caretaker.
